Description

Ynysangharad War Memorial Park

It’s just a walk in the park.

There’s nothing better than going for a nice walk in the park is there? Unless you like your music loud in the Full Ponty. Or, you like local food produce in the Big Welsh Bite. Or some relaxing music in front of a Victorian bandstand. Or you like watching Cricket. Or rugby. Or football. Playing tennis. Or golf. Jogging. Paddling. Or just kicking back and enjoying an ice cream.

And we haven’t even started on the history yet…

Ynysangharad War Memorial Park is the venue for some of Rhondda Cynon Taff’s biggest events. From rock concerts featuring the best national and international bands as well as home grown talent to local choirs and brass bands there is a regular programme of music throughout the summer months.

Ynysangharad War Memorial Park was laid out in the 1920s in the Edwardian style. Field Marshal Viscount Allenby opened the park as a war memorial park on the 6th August 1923. The park was originally laid out on a triangular area of land between Ynysangharad House and the Bown Lenox Chain and Anchor works and made up of fields, allotment gardens and an orchard. Today, the Park has many notable features. The Bandstand is a favourite place for people to relax. The sporting facilities are first class with two bowling greens, two football pitches and an 18-hole pitch and putt course. There is even a seasonal paddling pool and refreshment outlets.
