ON BOARD: Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism Cllr Graham Thomas with Pontypridd war member Cllr Stephen Carter at one of the newly installed signs

A series of new signs highlighting the many tourist attractions enjoyed and appreciated by visitors to Pontypridd have been unveiled this week.

The signs, which can be found at Bridge Street to the north and the Broadway at Pontypridd train station to the south, are another example of the investment being made in the county town by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council.

Over the past few months the Council’s Tourism Unit has worked on a newly published strategy, "Reaching Destination Rhondda Cynon Taf" which aims to develop and raise the quality of tourism on offer to visitors to the county borough.

The recently installed signs in Pontypridd act as a gateway to the attractions and facilities on offer to tourists and residents of the county borough.

They provide information on what to see and do in the area including specific information on Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, Rhondda Heritage Park, the William Edwards Bridge, The Muni Arts Centre and Pontypridd Museum amongst others.

This is the latest in a series of achievements the tourism team of the council has implemented.

The others include the development and distribution of 'Bedroom Browsers' into hotels across the county borough to enable visitors to read about things to see and do in the area from the comfort of their hotel room.

The unit also recently launched a new tourism website www.destinationRCT.co.uk aimed at potential visitors from throughout the UK and beyond. They have also developed and a new marketing campaign depicting the Rhondda Cynon Taf area in a refreshing new light through a series of postcards and top class photography.

Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism Cllr Graham Thomas said: "The newly installed tourism signs in Pontypridd town centre are another example of the enhancement works being carried out in the town.

"It is one of many exciting projects in the town centre and clearly illustrates that the gradual regeneration of Pontypridd is becoming visible to all who visit, live in and work there.

"Rhondda Cynon Taf is determined to do all in its power to ensure that Pontypridd is restored as a major shopping destination, not only within the county borough, but within the whole of South Wales."
