Christine Chapman AM opens new section of the Taff Trail

Rhondda Cynon Taf’s newest traffic-free cycle route - which will help people boost their health by walking and cycling more - has been unveiled by Assembly Minister Christine Chapman.

The new section of both the Taff Trail and the Celtic Trail follows the River Cynon between Abercynon and Cilfynydd, giving commuters, school children and tourists a peaceful and pleasant travel alternative to the busy A470.

The route will provide access to Cilfynydd Environmental Education Centre, Navigation Business Park, the Albion Industrial Estate and Coed-y-Lan Primary School.

The path forms part of the National Cycle Network created by Sustrans, the UK’s leading sustainable transport charity.

David Morgan, Sustrans Route Promotion Manager, said: "This is a lovely new route running alongside the river, which will be a terrific asset for local communities for their journeys to work, to school, for leisure and will help drive Wales’s efforts towards sustainable tourism in The Valleys.

"The path will help make walk and cycle rides safe, efficient and enjoyable for hundreds of people every day."
